The Helen Hay Whitney Foundation acknowledges with gratitude fellowships supported by the Agouron Institute, Merck & Co.,Inc., and the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, Inc.

Merck & Co.,Inc. has been providing funds for one new fellow each year since 1988. Merck-sponsored fellows.

The Agouron Institute has generously agreed to sponsor fellows in the field of structural biology, with emphasis on studies of supramolecular structure, in memory of Paul Sigler, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Helen Hay Whitney Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee from 1997 to 2000. Twelve Paul Sigler/Agouron Institute Fellows have been appointed to date. Agouron-sponsored fellows.

Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, Inc. has generously agreed to sponsor a series of three new fellowships.Novartis-sponsored fellows.

In 2007, The Mattina R. Proctor Foundation generously agreed to sponsor a fellowship.

In January 2000, the President announced the establishment of the Maclyn McCarty Fellowship Fund in honor of Dr. Maclyn McCarty, who faithfully served as Trustee and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee for several decades. This Fund was initiated by a substantial gift from Board member, Milton Allen. The McCarty Fund will sponsor a Whitney Fellow who will pursue their fellowship at The Rockefeller University, where Dr. McCarty taught and worked for over fifty years.

We are very pleased by the recently forged partnership with the HHMI to increase support for postdoctoral researchers. The HHMI has generously agreed to support up to 4 postdoctoral associates annually who will conduct research in the laboratories of HHMI investigators.
